arena. You can't miss the place - just look for the giant "Beehive". If the cloud is low and you can't pick it out - just walk along until you feel the hot air coming out.

The Cable Car is a landmark and symbol of Wellington so you better go in it! It runs from the centre of town in Lambton Quay, and after climbing underneath the corporate towers of The Terrace you emerge in the leafy hilltop suburb of Kelburn. In Kelburn there are more galleries, craft shops,

Wellington Activities Info

Tour of the Beehive?
Wellington Cable Car?
Seal Safari?

Parliament Buildings are there if you must go snoop around in the political

restaurants... and Victoria University. The cable car goes a bit further up to the top of the Botanical Gardens. If it is blowing a bit hard you can come back down again without getting off.

Museum of New Zealand - Te Papa is NZ's new "national museum" of cultural heritage and natural environment. It includes wonderful exhibitions and leading-edge interactive technology, cafe's and shops, native bush (yep, with a swing bridge and all), lagoon, glowworm cave, moa and fossil pits. Open 10am-6pm every day (until 9pm Thursdays). Cable St, Wellington. Entry is free.

Mount Victoria is another vantage point close to downtown for an excellent view down over the city, harbour, and airport if you can't make it up to the Wind Turbine Generator. The old Cannon up there doesn't work but what the hell, it's the view.

Wind Turbine Generator - at the top of Brooklyn - no, that's not where the wind comes from.... this was erected for research and it is a damn good place to get a view of Wellington, Cook Straight and the Harbour. You may need to tie your hair down with a scarf, but it will be worth it - and it's free.

The 2007 Excursion

Departing 1.15pm: The 82 Kilometre journey between Picton and Wellington takes little more than three hours, yet it's one of the world's great scenic cruises. And when you cruise across on The Interislander, you'll find a wonderful combination of entertainment and services that will make your Cook Strait crossing even more memorable. You are required to check in for your ferry service 30 minutes prior to departure.

Rental Car Info

Drop off the rental car at the ferry pier in Picton. Another car will be waiting at the pier in Wellington. Swain Tours is making the arrangements.
